Muslim communities and advocates for non-alcoholic beverages have raised their voices in opposition to the practices of Bel beverages, a prominent beverage manufacturer in Accra. The uproar stems from the revelation that Bel beverages has been utilizing the same production line for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, prompting concerns among consumers about potential cross-contamination.

The crux of the issue lies in Bel beverage’s recent introduction of alcoholic beverages bearing strikingly similar labels to their soft drink counterparts. Notably, products such as Pukka vs Pukka Extra and Bel vs Bel Ice have caused confusion among consumers, particularly those who adhere to Islamic dietary laws.

The Muslim community has vehemently denounced this production method, citing its violation of Islamic principles. In Islam, the consumption of alcohol is strictly forbidden (Haram), and the use of equipment shared between alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages is considered unacceptable.

In response to the outcry, Muslims and non-alcoholic advocates have called upon regulatory bodies such as the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the HALAL committee to intervene. They are urging these authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into Bel beverage’s manufacturing processes and take appropriate action to address the concerns raised by consumers.

The demonstration, which took place in Accra, served as a platform for protestors to voice their dissatisfaction with Bel beverage’s practices and demand accountability from regulatory agencies. The protestors emphasized the importance of upholding religious and ethical standards in the production and labeling of beverages to ensure transparency and consumer confidence.

As the controversy surrounding Bel beverage’s production methods continues to escalate, stakeholders await further developments from regulatory bodies regarding potential measures to address the concerns raised by the Muslim community and non-alcoholic advocates.

The protest against Bel beverage’s dual production of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages underscores the significance of adherence to religious and ethical standards in the manufacturing industry. With calls for regulatory intervention growing louder, the beverage manufacturer faces mounting pressure to address consumer concerns and ensure compliance with Islamic dietary laws.
